The RTITB Pivot Steer Lift Truck training course is suitable for anyone who needs to operate a counterbalance lift truck in the workplace. Regardless of how often they need to do so, if they operate the truck then individuals need to be certified to do so. Staff that have to operate a Pivot Steer truck may work in environments such as warehouses, storage facilities or delivery centres.

The duration of the course depends on the type of training required, as well as the number of people taking the course (maximum of 3 delegates). The durations below are if there are 3 delegates on the course:

  • Novice course: 3 days – for learners who have no experience or knowledge of operating a lift truck.

  • Refresher: 1 day – for learners who have received formal training previously and can operate the lift truck effectively.

  • Conversion: 2 days – for learners who have had formal training on a different type of truck and wish to transfer them to a new type through formal training.

  • Experienced: 2 days – for learners familiar with the basics of using a lift truck without having had any formal training.

  • Stacking and de-stacking loads at different heights (Various methods)

  • Vehicle loading & un-loading procedures

  • Daily maintenance checks

The RTITB Reach Lift Truck Training consists of three main sections:

  • Basic Training, which encompasses practical and theory training.

  • Job Specific skills, which includes risk awareness training based on the site where the forklift is operated. This includes covering site specific rules, safe work procedure and any other site-based policies not included in basic training.

  • Familiarisation training, which involves learners practicing standard procedure under supervision, helping them to develop and improve their operation skills on the forklift.

The RTITB Pivot Steer lift truck training is assessed in two ways:

  • A written assessment, which includes multiple choice and open exam questions based on safety and operational practices. You must score 80% or more to pass.

  • A practical assessment where the instructor will examine your basic operating skills on the forklift.

After completing the RTITB Pivot Steer lift truck training course, individuals can progress to study IOSH Managing Safely. The course allows them to build on their risk assessment skills with general safety awareness, beneficial to a wide range of sectors and industries.
