The NEBOSH International General Certificate will involve a minimum of 65 taught hours and approximately 40 hours of private study and background reading.
When studied through in-house or virtual classroom learning, the course is 9 days.
When studied through e-Learning, we recommend spending between 105 and 115 hours on the course. Students have access to the e-Learning course for 12 months from date of purchase.

The NEBOSH International General Certificate consists of two Units:

Element 2 How health and safety management systems work and what they look like.
Element 3 Managing risk — understanding people and processes.
Element 4 Health and safety monitoring and measuring.
Unit IG2: Risk Assessment
Element 5 Physical and psychological health.
Element 6 Musculoskeletal health.
Element 7 Chemical and biological agents.
Element 8 General workplace issues.
Element 9 Work equipment.
Element 10 Fire.
Element 11 Electricity.
By the end of the course, candidates will have developed the skills to do the following:
Justify health and safety improvements using moral, financial and legal arguments
Advise on the main duties for health and safety in the workplace and help their organisation manage contractors
Work within a health and safety management system, recognising what effective policy, organisational responsibilities and arrangements should look like
Positively influence health and safety culture and behaviour to improve performance in their organisation
Do a general risk assessment in their own workplace – profiling and prioritising risks, inspecting the workplace, recognising a range of common hazards, evaluating risks (taking account of current controls), recommending further control measures, planning actions
Recognise workplace changes that have significant health and safety impacts and effective ways to minimise those impacts
Develop basic safe systems of work (including taking account of typical emergencies) and knowing when to use permit-to-work systems for special risks
The NEBOSH International Certificate course features one written exam and one practical exam:
Unit IG1 includes an open book, scenario-based exam which you can do from home. You'll have 24 hours to complete the assessment.
Unit IG2 requires a 14-day practical assessment in the student's workplace. During this time, delegates will complete a risk assessment and develop an action plan for their workplace.
Grading
Your final grade for the Certificate is based on your mark in the IG1 exam, and you are only required to pass IG2.
The grade boundaries are as follows:
0 – 44 marks: Refer
45 – 64 marks: Pass
65 – 74 marks: Credit
75 marks and above: Distinction
If you are booking a virtual classroom course, your exam cost will be included within the price. If you are booking on to the e-learning course your exams will be an extra fee and will need to be booked separately.

Exam results are issued 50 working days after the exam date by NEBOSH.

Achieving the NEBOSH International General certificate leads to the opportunity to take NEBOSH qualifications focused on specific industries and fields, such as construction, fire safety and environment management. After studying this Certificate, many candidates also progress to the degree-level NEBOSH International Diploma.
What happens if I fail the NEBOSH assessment?
The Phoenix Pass Pledge will cover your additional studies, but you retake the exams at your own cost.
What level is the NEBOSH International General qualification?
The NEBOSH International General Certificate is level 3, which is equivalent to an A level qualification. It gives you the knowledge and skills to progress on to the NEBOSH Diploma, which is a level 6 qualification, which is equivalent to an Honours Degree.
Are there any entry requirements for NEBOSH Certificates?
There are no entry requirements, which makes a NEBOSH Certificate an ideal starting point for your health and safety training. Learners must have a suitable standard of English language to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.
When and how will I receive my results and NEBOSH International General Certificate?
Results are provided by NEBOSH after completing the course. NEBOSH send out the results 10-12 weeks after the exams. Your certificates will arrive from Phoenix 10-12 weeks after the results have been announced.

The NEBOSH Health and Safety Management for Construction (International) course (Launched 2021) is designed for managers, supervisors and site workers with health and safety responsibilities, working in the construction industry.
This course is suitable for supervisors, safety representatives, managers, and newly-qualified health and safety advisers operating in the oil and gas industries.
