NVQs are a premier vocational qualifications and a great alternative to academic study. Students compile a portfolio during the course, using evidence-based learning from their workplace to demonstrate knowledge and expertise.
NVQ Diplomas are suitable for health & safety professionals who already have a few years’ experience in the industry. Candidates are likely to have gained a level 3 health & safety qualification prior to studying the Diploma, such as a NEBOSH Certificate.
All our NVQ courses are work-based and completed via distance learning. There are no formal, written exams, as the course is assessed via a portfolio of work. Candidates are assigned a dedicated course manager, who will support you and provide feedback throughout your course.
The NVQ Level 6 Diploma in Health & Safety is usually completed in 12 – 18 months, with a recommended total of approximately 1,000 hours of study.

Entry-level IT skills include use of Microsoft Word or similar word processers, and the ability to save and upload files to digital storage spaces.

If you prefer a more academic approach to achieving a degree-level Health and Safety qualification, the NEBOSH National Diploma is the best alternative to NVQ Level 6.
The NVQ Level 6 is equivalent to a full bachelor’s degree and the NEBOSH National Diploma. The NVQ Level 7 is equivalent to a master's degree but has a greater focus on health and safety leadership, so the course most suitable for you will depend on your role.
The NVQ Level 5, which we no longer offer, is the equivalent of a foundation degree. The NVQ Level 6 is a higher qualification, equivalent to a full bachelor’s degree and the NEBOSH National Diploma. Due to its slightly more stringent requirements, many international employers prefer NVQ Level 6.
As you collect evidence, your assessor will thoroughly evaluate each unit upon submission to ensure that it meets the assessment criteria. If there are any misalignments, your assessor will give you detailed feedback to help you make improvements and resubmit your work. Once your assessor is confident you have met the learning objectives for all ten units, your e-portfolio will be sent for verification, and once passed, you'll receive your certificate.
